Listening in the Friction - The Alliance is a sisterhood of listening professionals who uphold the values of racial, social and environmental justice.
We exist to amplify our members’ work for an equitable world and take powerful collective action to facilitate change.
We are a female-driven group of women, female-identifying, gender-fluid people and their allies. Anyone who embraces the spirit of our Purpose Statement and Shared Norms is welcomed as a member.
“Our philosophy is grounded in only half a language, in which the power of discourse is deployed but the strength of listening is ignored. We have a culture that knows how to speak but not how to listen; so, we mistake warring monologues for genuine dialogue.”
- Gemma Corradi Fiumara, The Other Side of Language
Listening professionals are humans who listen first, above all else.
At least 75% of what we do is listening or is the result of listening.
Listening professionals listen at source.
We listen outside of previously held beliefs, patterns, bias, rights/wrongs, and fears.
We listen to create profound belonging and to fully understand the human we are in conversation with, in the moment, without thoughts of answers.
We listen to be part of, inspire or facilitate change.
We are open to growing this list, feel free to contribute additional professions.
We honor and embrace the United Nations Agenda 2030 for sustainable development goals around the planet.
We are creating ourselves, in the midst of the friction; in the momentum of change.
We are hosting calls on Clubhouse as we gain momentum.
